The Peugeot 208 Gti faces stiff opposition in the market

The Peugeot 208 GTi is hot on the heels of the Clio Turbo by Renaultsport and Ford’s Fiesta ST, giving it a lot to compete with. It does have a manual gearbox and almost 20bp more than the Fiesta ST so from the starting gate it already starts with an advantage.

Similar to both of its competitors, the Peugeot 208 does have a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine and it is boosts a very strong 197bhp with 203lb of torque. It is also able to get from zero up to 62mph in a very impressive 6.8 seconds placing it right in between both the Ford and the Clio.

However, it has a bit larger price tag than the Ford Fiesta ST costing almost £1900 more. It does manage to come in £100 less than the Clio Turbo but the Turbo has two extra doors and the choice of a dual-clutch gearbox and the Peugeot is limited to just manual transmission. Even if these options were available most likely that would bump up the price of the Peugeot by another couple grand.

The GTi only comes as a three door vehicle which means that overall it will be thought of as a very stylish and sleek car. It also has chromed wings for the side windows that are an obvious node to the older 205 GTi.

A few extra tweaks make it a lot more fun to look at including LED headlights, daytime running lights, chunkier side sills, a front grille with chrome headlights, 117 inch wheels, and a dual exhaust. Overall, the 208 GTi does look pretty neat but for some the casual details might not be as flashy as they like for a sporty car. The cabin is also quite posh with leather and red detailing as almost everything in the interior of the car is highlighted.
