It has recently been revealed by Spencers Solicitors that one of the reasons why the premiums on insurance for motorists keep increasing is because claims for personal injury are being auctioned off to the highest bidder. This is a revelation that has shocked many people and it is a questionable practice which is apparently rather rife in the insurance industry.
The practice has been taking place for years and it involves personal-injury cases being referred to solicitors who pursue them with the insurer being given something called a referral fee.
This is not something that is particularly uncommon, but most people are taking issue with the fact that some cases are being auctioned off to solicitors in big lots. The more misery that the bundle of cases includes, such as injury to people, the higher the price the solicitors are going to pay.
