An absolutely stunning Tojeiro Jaguar dating from 1958, and generally considered to be the best one that was ever built, will be showing its claws at the upcoming Race Retro Sale being hosted by Silverstone Auctions. It will also be the first time in many years that this model, constructed by John Tojeiro, a legend in engineering, has been for sale on the open market, making this possibly a once in a lifetime chance to own one of the prettiest of 1950’s racers.
The car’s unique appeal is added to even further by the fact that John Tojeiro personally restored it between 1989-1994 and added the impressive Ecurie Ecosse livery it still sports today. It comes to auction with its full FIA papers and a Jaguar dry sump 3.8Ltr D-Type engine with a wide angle head and triple Weber 45DCOE’s that produce 300bhp.
The gearbox is a D-type lightweight that has LSD and a triple plate clutch, whilst the rear suspension is De-Dion.
Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “John Tojeiro was a very well respected engineer by all his peers and influenced a very important era for British motorsport.
“Therefore, it really goes without saying that this car represents a great chance to own and drive one of the most evocative sports cars of the 1950’s. It was a golden era of motoring and a decade when talented engineers and fabricators matched and surpassed the offerings of major manufacturers.
“However, this car also has a generous touch from the modern era because it benefits from some 1990’s technology, enabling it to remain competitive in its class.”
This particular Tojeiro Jaguar, just the second one to be built, has also only made a handful of appearances in Europe, most recently at Spa and in the Stirling Moss Trophy race at Portimão in October 2011.
Potential buyers interested in bidding for this car are advised to contact Silverstone Auctions for an estimate on 01926 691141.
